Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Prime Minister of Slovakia Eduard Heger as part of her current official visit to that country, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told Rupor.

The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic welcomed the Chair of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic, saying then that Azerbaijan was a friendly country to Slovakia and that Slovakia was interested in a continued progress of its relations with Azerbaijan. PM Heger emphasised the need in yet deeper economic co-operation before he told Chair Gafarova about the work done in his country to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and about also the relevant state of affairs as it is now. He also took interest in what steps that Azerbaijan is taking in this regard.

Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude for the kind hospitality extended to the visiting delegation. This is the first visit of Chair of the Milli Majlis to Slovakia, it was mentioned. Hopefully, Mrs Gafarova continued, the meetings and discussions that lie ahead in the course of the visit will make an input to the progress of the bilateral connexions including the inter-parliamentary bonds.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis remarked as she was talking about the current state of the bilateral inter-parliamentary interaction that the two legislatures’ co-operation and reciprocal visits served the cause of advancing the relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia. Besides, the parliaments of the two countries co-operate under the auspices of a number of international organisations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova proceeded to an ample account of Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and of our country having recovered its lands from the occupation by Armenia and restoring consequently not only the historical justice but also its national territory’s wholeness. In addition, Azerbaijan incidentally enforced the four resolutions of the UN Security Council independently. As for now, Azerbaijan is carrying out the large-scale building and restoration work in the liberated territories. Our country is restoring and rebuilding its towns and provinces, populated localities, infrastructure as well as the cultural, historical and religious heritage completely ransacked, destroyed by the Armenian vandals in the thirty years of the Armenian occupation, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova made a point of saying.

Going further, the Chair of the Milli Majlis also informed the Slovak PM of the provocations that Armenia uses attempting to prevent a sustainable peace and security from settling in the region. Besides, Mr Heger was informed, with the appropriate factual references, about the planting of armed Armenian criminals and terrorist groups in the freed Azerbaijani lands, Armenia’s travail to make the terrorists intercepted after the 10th of November Statement look like prisoners of war and the refusal by Armenia to let Azerbaijan have minefield maps. As Madame Speaker pointed out, as many as 150 Azerbaijani civilians and military personnel have either died or been maimed in the explosions of the Armenian-planted mines to date. That shows, once more, that Armenia continues violating the international humanitarian laws rudely.

Then, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova told PM Eduard Heger of the anti-COVID-19 action afoot in Azerbaijan and about also the relevant international measures adopted at the suggestion of President Ilham Aliyev.

There was an exchange of opinions about other matters of mutual interest during the conversation. And, at the closure of the meeting, Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova presented Prime Minister Eduard Heger with the book titled ‘Garabagh Before and After the Occupation’.
